The Multidisciplinary Center

Meshi’s Multidisciplinary Center was established to make innovative treatment programs and advanced, often unique, therapies accessible to all children. Bringing together Meshi’s expert professionals from all health disciplines, the Center treats dozens of children each year from Israel and abroad.

While many of its services complementing services in the community and health system, the Center also bridges critical gaps—providing essential care for children who are unable to receive the support they need elsewhere.

The Center’s team also provides consultation to professionals, educators, and rehabilitation institutions, and guides their implementation of programs grounded in Meshi’s specialized training, accumulated expertise, and uniquely developed methods.

TheraSuit Therapy

TheraSuit Method – Intensive Neuro Functional Strengthening® (INFS) offers an intensive therapy program for children with cerebral palsy (CP) and other neuromotor disabilities, aimed at strengthening muscles, and enhancing balance, posture, and motor functions. The program consists of four weekly treatments over a one-month period, utilizing the “TheraSuit” body suit.

The “TheraSuit” is a body suit that applies resistance to the muscles and provides powerful proprioceptive input, a unique support system that helps develop body awareness, improve posture, and increase movement and coordination.

Initially developed as a “space suit” for Russian cosmonauts to mitigate the effects of weightlessness on muscles and bones, the “TheraSuit” has been adapted for children with cerebral palsy. Clinical research has confirmed its effectiveness in enabling these children to acquire and sustain functional skills, even after returning to conventional therapy.

The Meshi team is certified by Thera-Suit LLC in Michigan, USA, and has extensive experience in administering this unique method. They have successfully treated hundreds of children from Israel, England, the USA, and other countries at the Multidisciplinary Center. Treatments are provided by a physiotherapist and a rehabilitation assistant, with oversight from a senior physiotherapist.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation for Children with Arthrogryposis

Meshi’s team is officially certified by the specialized Paley Institute protocol for the rehabilitation of children with arthrogryposis who have undergone surgery. This recently developed protocol provides precise, intensive, and personalized treatment, delivered within the child’s natural environment and his or her educational-rehabilitative framework.

Each child receives a personalized treatment model, developed in alignment with ongoing medical guidance and tailored to the specific surgical intervention performed. The model is designed by a Meshi physical therapist with specialized expertise in this unique rehabilitation program, working under the guidance of Professor David Feldmana world-renowned orthopedic surgeon based in Florida and a leading expert in this field.

Support and Guidance for Therapeutic Teams

To facilitate each child’s rehabilitation process within their natural environment, Meshi provides support and hands-on guidance to therapeutic teams in educational-rehabilitation settings across Israel. This support is led by a Meshi physiotherapist with specialized expertise, and includes developing rehabilitation plans based on the established protocol, adapting the individualized treatment model, on-site staff training within the educational framework, and facilitating communication and coordination among all care providers—both in Israel and abroad.

For children at Meshi, this treatment is integrated into the rehabilitation process following medical interventions and takes place at each of the Meshi Centers.

The Graduates Program

Mainstream school integration for children with physical and other disabilities is a complex journey, filled with challenges——including social-emotional adjustment, accessibility gaps, and the need for continued rehabilitation. Meshi’s Graduates Program was created to address these very challenges, providing each child with the best possible foundation for successful integration and adaptation.

The Program is designed for students in grades 1-8—graduates of Meshi and other rehabilitation-educational settings—who are currently enrolled in mainstream schools. Participants receive subsidized transportation to a weekly two-hour session at Meshi’s Multidisciplinary Center in Jerusalem, which includes:

  • Emotional support groups, facilitated by an educational psychologist and guided by an educator specializing in community integration.
  • Personalized physiotherapy exercises in Meshi’s fully equipped gym, led by a physiotherapist and a rehabilitation assistant.

Throughout the program, the team provides ongoing support to the child’s parents and to the staff and students within the mainstream schools. This includes professional guidance, and the development of tailored plans to address any emerging needs and challenges.

The program has been successfully operating for a decade as part of the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security’s “National Program for Children and Youth at Risk – 360°”, in partnership with the Jerusalem Municipality.

A nominal fee is required for participation, with the majority of the costs covered by subsidies from the Jerusalem Municipality and Meshi.

For further information and registration, please contact the program coordinator, Ruthie: 050-828-2730, or leave a message via the Center’s contact form.
